And then it hits like you two lead slugs bursting out of a double barrel: you see that image or that word that communicates someone’s success that’s more than yours and then the angst and the competitive spirit combine to make a type of jealously and coveting rivalled by only that which is documented in the tragedies and fallenness of old mythologies. It's like you were taken out to the pasture and shot because, according to the digital landscape, you're not needed much anymore.
Yes, life in the digital landscape is competitive and filled with cutthroat olympian feats of challenge between hostile tribes and individuals:
Here look everyone! I’m hot, you’re not.
Here look everyone! I’m successful, you’re a failure.
Here look everyone! My baby is cuter than yours.
And so on and so on.
But most of all that digital stuff is a ruse anyway, and the stuff that isn’t, well, who cares? You have breath in your lungs, blood in your veins, and opportunities in front of you.
So what can you do that nobody else can? Do that, and be humble when you share it.
