You ever hear of Michael Zuk from Red Deer, Alberta? Currently, Michael spends his time doing the radio media circuit and newspaper interviews. Why? Michael Zuk now owns the half-rotten, tartar-covered tooth of John Lennon. How much did this cost Michael Zuk? $31,000.
At first, this started out as a strange story to me, but then it became increasingly sad. Yet, it gives us a great opportunity to question what we are doing with our lives. Why would Michael Zuk want to always be known as the guy that spent over $30,000 for a piece of decaying tooth of a dead musician? Unfortunately, listening to Michael talk on the radio makes it appear that he is proud of this accomplishment in his life.
Michael could have been the guy to buy goats for 500 families in Africa, which would have literally changed their lives forever. Michael could have been the guy to send a kid through university. Yet, Michael is the guy that owns a piece of a tooth.
Before we get self righteous, which is far too easy for us to do. What are we going to be known for? What is going to be our legacy? Once we answer that, then go on your social media presence and see if that matches up with your posts, tweets and photos. You are creating an online social media representation of yourself.
With the speed and reach of media now, we will be defined more by what the internet shows about us than what we say about ourselves. You can be known for something as strange as owning someone else's tooth, but don't be that guy. Instead be known for something that matters.
