I'm going to a funeral in a few hours, so I won't be writing much. But here's what I'm thinking about today.
Austin Kleon—a writer whose work you should check out—says he reads the obituaries every day because it motivates him to do the things that matter most and forget about all the other things that matter least.
It's days like today that I'm reminded: do the things that matter most. Be in the right place when death is at the door. I guess that's sort of morbid to write and share, but it's true.
When my story ends up in the funny papers, I hope it's a great story that inspires people. Not something boring. And if that's my hope, I guess I should be living the first kind of story rather than the second kind now. Before it's too late.
