A lot of emphasis is placed on storytelling these days. I am very excited about culture’s renewed interest in story, but I also am worried that people don’t really know what they’re really asking for when they’re asking for a good story.
Because a good story is honest. Because a good story is challenging. Because a good story provokes thought. Because a good story tends to produce more questions than answers. Because a good story causes us to change.
Is that what people really want? Or do people just want to be entertained? That's why I think what most people mean when they say storytelling is actually entertainment. But if you’re an artist, don’t just give people entertainment. Give them a damn good story and change them with it.
