Whether you see it or not, there are people who need you to support them. To encourage them. To inspire them. To teach them. To resource them. To equip them.
When I look back at what it took to get to where I am today, I don't see my own accomplishments. What I see is many people who took me aside and said how can I help? or offered to take me out for coffee and mentor me.
Without those people I wouldn't be who I am and doing what I'm doing, which is exactly why I make a point of doing what I can to be that kind of person to others. That is to say, if it's in my ability to mentor, teach, help, encourage, or support someone who needs it, then I'll make them time for that person for two reasons.
One, because it encourages that person to step out and do what they dream about doing. Honestly, there's nothing better than being part of someone's journey toward their dream.
Two, because it teaches and inspires me so much as I work with that person. Sometimes the best way to learn is by teaching other people. You'd be amazed at the stuff that comes out when you start teaching another person. Not to mention, seeing someone at the start of their journey also reconnects you back to why you started doing what you do in the first place: because you love it.
So what about you? Are you helping the people around you who need help? If you aren't, why not? Those people need you to come alongside them. Buy them a coffee. Share some wisdom. Give them permission, pat them on the back, and listen to them, just like somebody hopefully did the same for you (hopefully).
We can't go on this creative adventure alone. We need to walk those paths, trudge through those valleys, and climb to those creative peaks together.
