It was Joe Strummer, lead singer and rhythm guitarist for The Clash, who once suggested "you've 'gotta be slightly stupid" to make excellent art and share it with people. I guess he knows what he's talking about, because he and his crew were responsible for an album like London Calling that was ambitious (i.e. stupid enough) to try and blend punk rock and reggae and make it sound good.
So, whenever I get down on myself or think am I stupid for making this and sharing that? I just think about Joe Strummer's saying as shared here — and then I'm encouraged. Yes, I am stupid in the way I think and live and make/share art sometimes, and that's probably a good thing.
So, if you're going to get anywhere with your art and/or creativity, chances are you're going to have be slightly stupid enough to think that it's possible to do so and make a dent in the universe.
Because it's people like that who usually end up making dents in the universe.
Because often the best ideas are often the ones that sound the stupidest when shared for the first time.
